Vaishno Devi Yatra Parchi: Online and Offline



Vaishno Devi Yatra Parchi: Once a pilgrim reaches Katra, He/She has to obtain a yatra parchi from the permit counter of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The Permit counter is located adjacent to bus stand and taxi stand.The Permit is known as in Local Language as "Yatra Parchi" and permit counter is known as "Yatra Parchi Counter".The counter remains open everyday from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.About 23,000-24,000 pilgrims are permitted to proceed everyday on rush days from Katra to Vaishno Devi Ji.

Offline Yatra Parchis are given to Pilgrims free of Cost (Except for Online Yatra Parchi) on a first come first served basis.In case the number of pilgrims coming for darshan on a particular day exceeds 23,000 - 24,000, the remaining pilgrims are issued "Yatra Waiting Slips" from the same counters.A maximum number of 9 persons can be registered against one yatra parchi by the staff on duty.Each parchi contains the name of the leader of the party.His/Her place of residence and the number of males, females and children in the group of the nine.

Children below 5 years of age are not entered in the yatra parchi.Corresponding entries are made simultaneously by the staff in the registers maintained by the board to keep track of the pilgrimage.A senior officer of Shrine Board sits at the counter to supervise and monitor things.A group number is allotted to each yatra parchi.

Validity of Yatri Parch is 6:00 hours,which means that devotee is required to cross first check post located at Banganga with in 6 hours of the issue of the yatra Parchi.In case,he fails to do so,he will have to get a new yatra parchi.It is worth mentioning here that any yatri who is not in possession of Yatra Parchi will be turned back from Ban Ganga Check post and will not be allowed to proceed further.In a rare case,if a yatri is found in En route-Bhawan without Yatra Slip, he/She shall not only be turned back but a disciplinary action can be taken against him/her.
Offline Yatra Parchi can also be obtained from the Saraswati Dham Jammu free of cost

Benefits of Yatra Parchi
  • Once you get yourself registered at the Yatra Registration Counter (YRC),you will will issued a Yatra Parchi.When a yatra parchi is issue to devotee, He/She will get an insurance cover of Rs 100000/- (For Majors) and Rs 25000/- (For Minors) against any accidental casualty (Not Including Natural Deaths including Heart Attacks)
  • The Yatra Parchi is to be preserved till you have a darshan of Mata Ji and you will have darshan only on the basis of group number mentioned in your Yatra Parchi.

Online Yatra Parchi
Apart from getting the Yatra Parchi at the designated counters in Katra,It is now possible to get the Yatra Parchi Online.For obtaining Online Yatra Parchi,you have to get registered yourself as a Devotee on the Official Website of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (www.maavaishnodevi.org) .Rs 50/- will be charged per devotee against the Online Yatra Parchi

By Rail: Jammu is connected by rail with all the four corners of the country.Jammu is connected directly form Kolkatta,Delhi, Mumbai, KanyaKumari, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, Jaipur,Patna etc.Indian Railways operates a large number of tains with air-conditioned and ordinary coaches to and from Jammu every day.

By Road: Jammu is connected to rest of the country by the Prestigious National Highway 1 A.

Delhi to Jammu: If you are coming from Delhi to Jammu, then you can reach Jammu by Rail, Road as well as Air.Delhi located at a distance of 635 Kms from Jammu

Jammu to Katra


From Jammu to Katra,is a distance of 50 Kms.Most of the distance is covered on National Highway IA and a part of distance (Approx 15 Kms) is over a secondary road which is maintaned by Border Roads Organization (BRO),

By Taxis: Taxis are available at Jammu Bus-Stand,Jammu airport and at Jammu Railway station for carring the piligrims to Katra.

By Bus: The Jammu and Kashmir State Roadways Transport Corporation operates a large number of buses at regular intervals from Jammu Railway Station to Katra.Private Delux buses also operate between Jammu Railway Station and Katra.Besides these there is a regular bus service between Jammu to Katra from the General Bus Stand at Katra.Buses leave for Katra after every 15 minutes from the General Bus Stand.The bus service commence at 6:00 am and concludes at 8:00 pm everyday

Complete Overview of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board


The management of Mata Vaishno Devi is administered by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB). The Shrine Board came into force on 31st August 2011 under the Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act, 1986.The Shrine Board was constituted with the Objective of providing basic facilities (Like Food,Bathing,Accommodation) to the Pilgrims in general.

Before the board was constituted the Management was in the hands of Local Trust called the "Dharmarth Trust" and a few local residents called the "Baridars".The decision to take over the management by the state government is due to the poor state of things and absence of facilities for the Pilgrims.

 The Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act can into force from August 30,1986.Under the Act,the management of the shrine will be run by a 10 member board.The Act provides that Governor of the state would be the ex-officio chairman of the board.In case the Governor be Non-Hindu,he would nominate the Chairman who would be Hindu.Dr Karan Singh who was the sole trustee of the Dharmarth Trust was made the vice-chairman of the board by the life.The Governor has nominated the eight other members of the board.

  • Medical facilities are available at base camp Katra,Adhkuwari Sanjichat and Bhawan
  • Eatables are provided in the Bhojanalays and Refreshment Units owned by Shrine Board at affordable rates.
  • On Track Facilities in the form of Palkis,Ponnies and Pithus for the under privileged yatris
  • Battery Car Service from Adhkuwari (New Track) to Bhawan and vice-versa
  • Blankets and Cloak Rooms are provided to pilgrims free of cost.
  • Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has its own no profit no loss shops at Bhawan known as Bhaint Shop where Prashad/Bhaints offerings are available at a fair price.
  • Atka Darshan and Aarti Darshan Facilities are provided to pilgrims and affordable rates
